Welcome to my CartoonA Day Santa’s Workshop at the North Pole! I knew, as I began this cartoon sketch, I would be spending more time and energy on details which would ultimately become unnecessary. If you’re an artist, you know exactly what I’m talking about. If not, it’s like this…
In my head it’s a place of magic and wonder. I see very clearly what the image is Supposed to look like. So my head tells me the addition of DETAIl will make up for poor composition and other flaws. Others who’ve seen my Santa’s Workshop in progress think it’s great, and that’s all well and good. But for an artist, the gap between the mind’s eye and the page should be as small as possible. In this case, the gap is a chasm. Anyway, I hope you enjoy it.
For the internet robots: this cartoon is of a boy who seemingly trekked out on his own, with supplies bundled on his sled, in search of the North pole and Santa Claus. Below him, in a hidden valley is Santa’s North Pole Village, complete with Elves, Reindeer, and Santa’s Sleigh. The surrounding Elf-homes seems to be creating the Northern Lights from magical chimneys.
