Jerry Tarkanian Dies
Jerry Tarkanian, head coach of the UNLV Runnin’ Rebels from 1973 to 1993, died today at age 84. He was a beloved figure in the growth of Las Vegas and brought unheard of success to the Rebels. One of his most notable affectations was his curious behavior of sucking on a towel while coaching. Reportedly, he learned to soak towels in water and suck on them throughout the game due to games where water was sparse.
